Access Statement

Mincarlo is a B&B on three storeys. There are ground floor bedrooms but with limited disabled access.
Our access statement is available on our website and copies are available by email or by post upon request. Website information available in large print on request.

Arrival at Mincarlo
​
Access to Mincarlo can be on foot, or by taxi (or heliport/Skybus shuttles) to the end of our pathway.
Mincarlo is at the top of the strand in Hugh Town, accessed from a level pavement.
There are some accessible taxis that can be arranged for people with impaired mobility.
There is some limited equipment hire available locally, including a sand chair with large wheels for beach access (all would need to be arranged in advance).

Please note as there is no car ferry to the islands there is no access by car to Mincarlo. Local vehicles pick up/drop off directly by our front pathway (with very low kerb) or back entrance by arrangement (where they can drive onto the pavement or reverse into our back yard).
If traveling by Skybus (plane) Paulgers Passenger Transport meet all flights. If traveling by Helicopter Island Taxis meet all flights.
Mincarlo sign is at the front pathway in rustic letters four inches high.
There is no gate on either entrance to the property.
We offer assistance with luggage.
From the road to the entrance there is a very low step up to the pathway from the pavement, followed by a slightly uneven path (50metres). Two steps, each several inches high, onto gravel terrace/garden.
From rear entrance there is a wide, uneven pathway (no steps) around the side of the house onto the gravel terrace/garden.
From gravel terrace/garden there are two high steps into the front porch of the house. Please note ramp not available.

Main Entrance
​
Brass doorbell in main porch to inform us of arrivals.
From the front porch there is one step (approx 20cm high), 15cm wide with a small drop the other side (approx 5cm) - this is a solid beam of granite.
Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc
Two flights of stairs with handrail to first & second floor bedrooms.
Dining-room on a level from the corridor - all on even wooden floorboards.
Fire door (76cm gap width) through to ground floor bedrooms, lounge & WC.
Fire doors in public areas are mostly held on magnets except when the alarm is sounding. Ground floor WC spacious, with vinyl flooring.

Lounge
​
Guest lounge is carpeted & has a rug in the centre. Comfortable sofas & chairs.
Television, oil-filled radiator.
Many local interest books & tourist information. Available for guests' use at all times.
Dining Room
Available for guests' use at all times.
Upright dining chairs with seat pads, assortment of tables. Breakfast buffet 96cm high.
Computer set up with the internet for guests. Piano.

Laundry
There is a launderette at Porth Cressa (no in-house laundry facilities available to guests).

Bedrooms - Ground Floor

Ground floor bedrooms (both with divan beds & substantial mattresses):
Standard double, spacious, fitted carpet, all on one level; bathroom with non-slip vinyl floor, spacious walk-in shower.
Twin/super-king double with step down (13cm high), fitted carpet, bathroom with bath (59cm high) & shower over.
Bedrooms - First & Second (Attic) Floor

First & second floor bedrooms are spacious & comfortable.
Some attic (second floor) rooms have restricted headroom with roof-beams. Please contact us for more detailed information about any of the bedrooms.

Grounds & Garden
​
Guests have full access to grounds & terrace garden at all times. Large picnic table with two long benches (no backrest).
Long bench with simple backrest.
Freestanding chairs & side table.
Deckchairs on the lawn (down two steps onto front pathway, up one step onto grass). Steep "giant" steps (large, uneven granite steps) down to prom & beach.

Fire Safety
Each guest bedroom has clear information about fire escape routes.
We test our alarm system every week.
Please notify us if you have any particular needs relating to fire safety.
We do not take dogs but please contact us if you have a service dog, to discuss possibilities.
Please note we operate a no smoking policy in both the property and the grounds.

Future Plans
We are looking at the possibility of making the ground floor rooms accessible by french windows from the grounds of Mincarlo.
